What does the yogurt do in the curry?

Besides its health benefits, yogurts can give the curry a thick and creamy feel. Also, the yogurt neutralizes a little bit of the spice. Best for all those curry lovers who enjoy their dish less spicy.

Would the regular watery and sour yogurt work for this dish?

No. The yogurt is supposed to be thick, preferably Greek yogurts to be used. You can of course have the watery sour yogurt as an extra for your meal. But using it to cook the yogurt chicken is not advised.

Is there any way to substitute yogurt?

Well, the dish’s name IS “yogurt chicken” so you would be taking out the most essential ingredient from it. However, full thick creams are known to be used as a substitute for yogurt. Although the taste would differ.

What is the difference between Greek yogurt and dahi?

Greek yogurts have a thicker and creamier form than dahi. Greek yogurts have more fat and protein while Dahi has higher carbohydrate and sodium content.
