Where does all the spiciness & flavor of the Teekha Murgh come from?

To prepare this recipe, we use dry red chili, red chili powder, and Kashmiri red chili powder that brings out the dish’s spiciness and bright red color.

Adding green chilies at the end of the preparation does not contribute much to the spiciness but more so to bring flavor and aroma to the recipe.

Another ingredient we add is yogurt, which helps balance all the chili and spices of this curry recipe making it easily bearable to eat and still spicy and delicious.

This recipe is a perfect addition to your party menu, it brings the delight and zest to crave for. You can have the Theeka Murg with flatbread, naan, chapati, or parotta. It can also be served as a side dish with any other curry.

Some spices that we use in the recipe include fennel, nigella seeds, and fenugreek seeds, giving the dish an amazing aroma and pickle-like flavor. The addition of curry leaves gives the dish a delectable taste and aroma as well.

Curry turned out to be a bit too spicy, what to do?

You can always add a few drops of lemon to a serving to decrease the spice to suit your taste. Although you might feel the lemon’s tangy taste, it would still be delicious nevertheless. You may also use yogurt as an extra addition to the serving.

Is adding cooking cream advisable to reduce the spice?

Ingredients

  • Marinating the chicken
  • 500 gm Chicken

  • 1/4 cup Curd

  • 1/2 tsp Salt

  • 1 tsp Red chili powder

  • 1 tsp Coriander powder

  • Preparing Teekha Murgh
  • 3 tbsp Cooking oil

  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds

  • 1 tsp Fennel seeds

  • 1/4 tsp Nigella seeds

  • 1/8 tsp Fenugreek Seeds

  • 2 Dry red chili

  • 2 Onion chopped

  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1 Tomato chopped

  • 1/2 tsp Salt

  • 3 Green chili slits

  • 5-7 Curry leaves

  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala powder

  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper powder

  • 1 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder

Directions

  • Marinating the Chicken
  • In a large bowl, take chicken 500 gm, curd 1/4 cup, salt 1/2 tsp, red chili powder 1 tsp, coriander powder 1 tsp – mix well and let it marinate for about 30 minutes.
  •  Preparing  Teekha Murg
  • In a heating pot, add cooking oil 3 tbsp, cumin seeds 1 tsp, fennel seeds 1 tsp, nigella seeds 1/4 tsp, fenugreek seeds 1/8 tsp, bay leaf 1 pc, dry red chili 2 pc, chopped onion 2 pc and let it fry till the onions become translucent on medium to high heat.
  • Add ginger garlic 1 tbsp and cook for 2-3 minutes till the raw smell goes off.
  • Add the marinated chicken and roast it for about 2-3 minutes on high heat.
  • Add chopped tomato 1 pc and stir well. Let it cook on medium to high heat till the tomato becomes tender.
  • Add salt 1/2 tsp, turmeric powder 1/2 tsp, green chili slits 3 pc, dry curry leaves 5-7 pc & stir it well. Cover and let it cook for about 15 minutes on medium to low heat.
  • After, add garam masala powder 1/2 tsp, black pepper powder 1/2 tsp, Kashmiri red chili powder 1 tsp, and stir the mixture well.
  • Once again, cover and let it cook for the last 6 minutes on medium heat.
  • The Teekha Murg is ready to serve.
