What is the difference between french fries and Salli?

French fries are commonly served with fast foods as a snack. There is a slight change in preparation and appearance as well. Sali is crispier and crunchier, mostly used as a topping for dishes like curry.

Usually, people buy “Salli” (fried potato sticks) readymade from the market and use in their recipes, but here we show you how to make the Salli recipe at home which can be much healthier.


  • 8 pc Potatoes

  • 6 cup Water

  • 2 tsp Salt

  • 4 tbsp Cornflour

  • For frying Cooking oil


  • Preparing the potato sticks
  • We can prepare Salli by using 2 methods.
  • First Method -> Cut and slice the potatoes 4 pc – into thin sticks (match stick size)  (OR)  Second Method -> Use a grater to grate potatoes 4 pc into a thin stick-like shape.
  • Put the sliced or grated potatoes into water.
  • This process can help remove the excess starch from the potato.
  • Rinse the potato 2-3 times.
  • Take out the potato sticks into a separate bowl.
  • Frying the potato sticks
  • Into a heating frying pan add cooking oil – add coated potato sticks into it and fry it until it becomes light brown and crispy.

  • Use the largest grater side for grating the potato.
  • Wash the potato sticks (Salli) properly until you get a clear water.
  • Dry the potato sticks properly before frying them.
  • Store it in an air-tight jar or container to keep it crunchy.
  • Do not sprinkle extra salt on top as it soaks salt while boiling.
