Spinach Chicken Curry is a simple and authentic dish with spinach and chicken as the main ingredient, with side spices and ingredients. For all those chicken lovers, this recipe gives it a rite balance between the taste of the chicken and the nutrition & health benefits from the spinach. Spinach is a good source of Vitamin C, A, K, Iron, potassium, zinc, magnesium, and calcium – with it being very low in calories. Spinach is a vital ingredient for your growing kids. Usually, kids don’t eat spinach alone due to its taste but when made as a chicken recipe with some side ingredients I am pretty sure kids would love it. The Spinach Chicken Curry recipe is perfect for your dinner or lunch and is usually eaten hot with a flatbread, roti, or chapati. While cooking this recipe always keep in mind to avoid boiling/cooking the spinach (while making its puree) for a longer time and instead blanch it for just a while to save its nutrition value.

Easy and healthy Spinach Chicken Recipe step by step.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Kg Chicken

  • 150 gms Spinach Baby

  • 4 Tbsp Cooking Oil

  • 1 pc Bay Leaf

  • 1 pc Cinnamon Stick

  • 3 pc Cloves

  • 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds

  • 1 Onion Large

  • 2 Tsp Salt

  • 1 Tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste

  • 2 pc Green Chilies

  • 1 Tsp Turmeric Powder

  • 1 Tsp Coriander Powder

  • 2 Tsp Kashmiri Red Chili Powder

  • 1 Tsp Garam Masala

Directions

  • In a hot pan, add 4 cups of water and add 150 gm of spinach into it (dipped) and boil (blanch) it for 2 – 3 minutes.
  • After 3 minutes take out the blanched spinach into a bowl to let it cool for 2 – 3 minutes.
  • Once cooled, add the spinach into a blender to make a smooth puree and keep it aside.
  • Add 4 tbsp of cooking oil into a heating pot, then add 1 large sliced onion and stir it for 3 – 4 minutes.
  • After stirring, add cumin seeds 1 tsp, bay leaf 1 pc, cinnamon 1 pc, cloves 3 pc, and stir everything well. Cook this mixture for about 4 minutes.
  • Into the above mixture, add 1/2 kg of chicken and let it fry for 10 minutes. Stir it off and on when it cooks.
  • Then add Kashmiri red chili powder 2 tsp, coriander powder 1 tsp, turmeric powder 1 tsp, ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp, chopped green chilies 2 pc, and salt 2 tsp – stir the complete mixture properly and let it fry for 10 minutes more.
  • After 10 minutes, add spinach puree – and cover with a lid and let it cook for about 15 minutes.
  • Open the lid after 15 minutes and add garam masala powder 1 tsp and mix everything well.
  • After, cover the lid once again and let it cook for one last 5 – 7 minutes.
  • The Spinach Chicken is ready, serve it hot with Naan or Rice.

Notes

  • Instead of making spinach puree you can cut the spinach into very small-sized pieces and add it into your chicken to cook as well which might be comparatively favorite for some.
  • We have cooked the whole recipe on medium to high flame.
