What does lacha chicken mean ?

‘Lacha’ means sticks and defines the style of preparing the dish. We have chicken shredded into small stick like pieces and added to the curry. It’s just a unique way of preparing the dish that sometimes people find appealing and even tastier.

Can we add more water to turn it into a full gravy ?

The lacha chicken’s taste lies on the shredded pieces of chicken that absorbs the masala. You could try adding more water to form a semi-gravy, but according to what we found out, making it too watery leaves the dish bland and savourless.

An awesome recipe prepared from the well cooked shredded chicken and having great texture

Ingredients

  • Cooking the chicken
  • 1 tbsp Cooking oil

  • 1 pc Bay leaf

  • 4 pc Cloves

  • 6 pc Black peppercorns

  • 1 pc Cinnamon stick

  • 3 pc Green cardamom

  • 500 gms Chicken

  • Preparing Lacha chicken
  • 2 tbsp Cooking oil

  • 1 pc Onion

  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste

  • 1 pc Tomato paste

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

  • 1/2 tsp Red chili powder

  • 1 tsp Coriander powder

  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder

  • 3 pc Green chili

  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala powder

  • 2 tbsp Coriander freshly chopped

Directions

  • Cooking the chicken
  • Into a heating pot, add cooking oil 1 tbsp, bay leaf 1 pc, cloves 4 pcs, black peppercorns 6 pcs, cinnamon stick 1 pc, green cardamom 3 pods, boneless chicken 500 gms – fry it for about 5 – 6 minutes on high heat.
  • Add water 2 cups – cover and boil for about 10 -1 2 minutes on medium to high heat.
  • When the chicken is ready take out the chicken pieces from broth and strain the broth through a mesh – keep the chicken aside.
  • Preparing the lacha chicken
  • Into a heating frying pan, add cooking oil 2 tbsp, chopped onion 1 pc and let it fry until the onions become light brown on high heat.
  • Add ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp and let it fry until the raw garlic smell goes off.
  • Add tomato paste (1 tomato) and let it cook for about 2 minutes on high heat.
  • Add salt 1 tsp, turmeric powder 1/2 tsp, red chili powder 1/2 tsp, coriander powder 1 tsp, cumin powder 1/2 tsp – cook for about 2 – 3 minutes on medium to high heat.
  • Add the already strained chicken broth 1 cup and give it a quick boil on high heat.
  • Shred the chicken with fork and add into the pan.
  • Add green chili slits 3 pcs, garam masala powder 1/2 tsp, freshly chopped coriander 2 tbsp and let it cook for about last 2 – 3 minutes on medium heat.
  • Serve it hot with naan or paratha.

  • Use only boneless chicken for this recipe.
  • You can also use chopper to shred the chicken pieces.
