In this recipe, we’ll show you how to prepare a tasty Cauliflower Manchurian or more traditionally known as Gobi Manchurian in the Indian subcontinent. Like all Manchurians, this follows a Chinese way of preparation with some of its spices. It’s well known and adored by vegetarians and is an excellent alternative for any healthy meat dish.

Ingredients

  • Marination
  • 1/4 cup Corn starch

  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour

  • 1/2 tsp Red chili powder

  • 1 tsp Black pepper powder

  • 1 tsp Salt (or according to diet)

  • 1 tbsp Cooking oil

  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste

  • 1 cup Water

  • Sauce Preparation
  • 1/4 cup Water

  • 2 tbsp Soya sauce

  • 1 + 1/2 tsp Vinegar

  • 1 tbsp Chili sauce

  • 1 tbsp Corn starch

  • Gobi Manchurian Preparation
  • 1 inch Ginger

  • 6 cloves Garlic

  • 2 pc Green chili

  • 1/2 pc Capsicum

  • 2 medium Onions

  • 2 cups Cauliflower florets

  • 1 liter Water

  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper powder

  • 2 tbsp Cooking oil

  • 1 tsp Salt (or according to diet)

Directions

  • Marination
  • In a heating pot take water 1 liter – add cauliflower florets 2 cups and blanch for 3 minutes.
  • After 3 minutes, take out the cauliflower florets – rinse them with cold water & keep it aside.
  • In a separate bowl, add corn starch 1/4 cup, all-purpose flour 1/2 cup, red chili powder 1/2 tsp, black pepper powder 1 tsp, salt 1 tsp (or to taste), cooking oil 2 tbsp, ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp, water 1/2 cup (gradually keep adding water and stirring at the same time).
  • When it becomes a thick paste-like batter- add blanched cauliflower into it and mix well.
  • Keep the mixture marinate for 15 minutes.
  • Sauce Preparation
  • In a bowl take water 1/4 cup, soya sauce 2 tbsp, vinegar 1+1/2 tsp, chili sauce 1 tbsp, corn starch 1 tbsp – stir well and keep aside.
  • Preparing Gobi Manchurian
  • In a pot take enough oil to deep fry the cauliflower florets.
  • Let the oil heat – then add marinated cauliflower into it-  deep fry till it’s golden brown on medium to high flame.
  • Take out the fried cauliflower florets and keep them aside for later use.
  • In a heating fry pan, add cooking oil 2 tbsp, chopped ginger 1 inch, chopped garlic 6 cloves, and sauté them for 2 minutes on high flame.
  • Add chopped green chilies 2 pc, diced onion 2 pc, diced capsicum 1/2 pc, and fry them for 3 – 4 minutes on high flame.
  • After, add the prepared sauce – cook until it’s thick.
  • Add black pepper powder 1/2 tsp, salt 1 tsp or to taste, and stir well.
  • Add the fried cauliflower florets into the cooked sauce and mix it properly for few seconds.
  • Garnish it with spring onions and serve it hot.

  • Do not boil the cauliflower, only blanch it to save its nutrients.
