Croutons are toasted or fried pieces of bread. These include wheat, wholemeal, and sourdough. Although croutons are simple and contain limited nutrients based on the type of flour, it can be combined with various other ingredients to create nutritious and healthy recipes. Their crunchiness paired with the delicate ease of savoring it makes croutons a dominant ingredient in any soup or salad. However, its simplicity also makes it a fine side addition to new dishes or recipes without losing any integral flavor of it.

Now onto the main question, how do we make croutons that can be added to our dishes? Without further ado, let’s dig in! We will show you simple and easy steps on how to create the perfectly cooked/baked croutons that are ready to go into those soups and salads (or whatever you are planning to cook it with).

Make Croutons at home to add to your soups and salads and give it more flavor and variety!


  • 5 Slices Brown Bread Whole Wheat

  • 2 Tbsp Butter Salted

  • 1+1/2 Tsp Garlic Paste

  • 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil

  • 1/2 Tsp Black Pepper Powder

  • 1/2 Tsp Salt (or based on taste)


  • In a bowl, add garlic paste 1+1/2 tsp, cooking oil 2 tbsp, butter 2 tbsp, black pepper powder 1/2 tsp, salt 1/2 tsp(or based on taste), and mix it well.
  • Add bread 5 slices diced, into the bowl and again mix it well.
  • Spread these bread cubes on a greased baking tray and bake at 380º F for 15 minutes.
  • Use immediately or store in an airtight container in a cool pantry, which can easily last for 2-3 weeks.

  • White bread also can be used instead of brown bread.
  • You can also Pan fry or Dry fry croutons if the baking facility is not available.
  • We use garlic as a flavor for our croutons – But other spices (like cilantro and rosemary) also can be added instead/along with garlic as per your taste preference.
  • Use salt based on your taste and diet requirement, although we have used some measurements.
