What is Besan Ka laddoo?

“Besan” (word originating from India) is a type of flour made out of chickpeas. Also known as gram flour or chickpea flour. “Laddoo” is a confectionary/sweet famous across the Indian subcontinent. They are round and can be made out of different kinds of flour.
“Besan Ke Ladoo” are laddoos made out of gram flour.

Yes, absolutely. Besan has more good fat than whole wheat flour and also higher protein content. Rich in complex carbohydrates and with a low glycemic index, besan is good for diabetics too.

This amazing dessert recipe is so simple to cook and brings delicious flavors to your palate.

Ingredients

  • 1+1/2 cup Gram flour

  • 1/2 cup Butter

  • 1 tbsp Water

  • 3/4 cup Powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp Food color

  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder

  • 2 tbsp Nuts

Directions

  • In a heating fry pan, add butter 1/2 cup, gram flour (besan) 1+1/2 cup – roast well for 10 minutes on low flame.
  • Keep stirring the gram flour continuously to avoid burning at the bottom.
  • Add food color 1 tsp (orange), water 1 tbsp, butter 1 tbsp – stir continuously for another 10 minutes.
  • With continuous stirring the color of the gram flour changes – Buttery texture and the gram flour aroma releases.  
  • Now, add cardamom powder 1/4 tsp and roast it for the last 5 minutes on low heat.
  • Switch off the heat and transfer the mixture into a bowl.
  • Let the gram flour mixture cool down at room temperature.
  • After, add fine sugar 3/4 cup, nuts 2 tbsp, and mix everything well.
  • Take a spoonful of gram flour and start making a round shape for ladoo.
  • Garnish it with dry fruits – The Besan ke ladoo is ready. You could also refrigerate it or have it at room temperature.
