What are the benefits of potato or aloo in this curry ?

Aloos or potatos contain many nutrients and are rich in antioxidants. They also help control blood pressure. Besides the healthy benefits, aloos taste amazing when mixed into a curry. They are solid pieces and play almost a big role as the meat in the dish.

Do the potatoes need to be boiled before adding into the curry?

If you’d like to peel the skin off the potato you could boil it beforehand which makes it easy to peel off the skin with your hands. You can also boil the potato to make it softer. Otherwise, you can add them directly to the curry with the chicken and it should be fine.

What are other vegetables we can add in the aloo chicken curry ?

Spinach would be perfect as an addition. You can also try cauliflower, radish or carrots.

Simple and easily prepared chicken potato recipe


  • Marinating The Chicken
  • 500 gms Chicken

  • 1/2 tsp Salt

  • 1/2 tsp Red chili powder

  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste

  • 1 tsp Cumin powder

  • Preparing Aloo Chicken Curry
  • 4 tbsp Cooking oil

  • 1 pc Bay leaf

  • 5 Black peppercorns

  • 4 pc Cloves

  • 1 pc Cinnamon stick

  • 3 pc Green cardamom

  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds

  • 1 pc Onion

  • 1 pc Tomato paste

  • 1 tsp Coriander powder

  • 2 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder

  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

  • 1/2 tsp Salt

  • 1/3 cup Curd

  • 250 gms Potato

  • 4 pc Green chili

  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala powder

  • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves


  • Marinating The Chicken
  • Into a large bowl, take boneless chicken 500 gms, salt 1/2 tsp, red chili powder 1/2 tsp, ginger garlic paste 1 tbsp, cumin powder 1 tsp – mix it well and let it marinate for about 1 hour.
  • Preparing Aloo Chicken Curry
  • Into a heating pot, add cooking oil 4 tbsp, bay leaf 1 pc, black peppercorns 5 pcs, clove 4 pcs, cinnamon stick 1 pc, green cardamom 3 pods, cumin seeds 1 tsp, sliced onion 1 pc – fry the onions till light brown.
  • Add tomato paste (1 tomato) – stir and cook it for about 2 – 3 minutes on medium to high heat.
  • Add coriander powder 1 tsp, Kashmiri red chili powder 2 tsp, turmeric powder 1 tsp, salt 1/2 tsp and let it fry for about 2 minutes on medium heat.
  • Add marinated chicken and let it roast for about 5 minutes on high heat.
  • Add curd 1/3 cup and let it cook for about 2 – 3 minutes on medium to high heat.
  • Add diced potatoes 250 gms, green chili slits 4 pcs and give it a quick stir.
  • Now add water 1 cup and cover with lid and let it cook for about 10 – 12 minutes on medium to high heat.
  • After, add garam masala powder 1/2 tsp, coriander leaves 2 tbsp and give it a quick stir.
  • The delicious Aloo Chicken Curry is ready !

  • You can also use chicken with bones instead of boneless.
  • Keep cut potatoes dipped in cold water for just a while to remove enough starch level – that helps control the colour change of potato when its open.
