Achari Chicken: Origin

It originated from the North Indian regions. Although it didn’t have a name like “Achari Murg” termed to it back then, it had been quite famous around states like Rajasthan where the people’s love for achar(pickle) brought them to combine it with their love for meat.

How & When to have the Achari Chicken

Depends on your love for spicy food. They are delicious any time of the day and guarantee to give you happiness and a filled tummy. They are best enjoyed in cold weather due to its hot and spicy flavor. Preferably had with bread like naan, roti, paratha and such.

Ingredients

  • Preparing Masala Powder
  • 1 tsp Fennel Seeds

  • 1 tsp Nigella Seeds

  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek Seeds

  • 2 Dry red chili

  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds

  • Marinating The Chicken
  • 500 gm Chicken

  • 1 tsp Salt

  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

  • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic

  • 1/4 cup Curd

  • Preparing the Achari Chicken
  • 4 tbsp Cooking Oil

  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds

  • 7 Dry Curry leaves

  • 2 Green chili

  • 2 Onion

  • 1 Tomato medium

  • 1/4 tsp Salt

  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder

  • 3/4 cup Water

  • 2 tbsp Sliced Garlic

Directions

  • Preparing Masala Powder
  • In a heating frying pan add fennel seeds 1 tsp, nigella seeds 1 tsp, mustard seeds 1/2 tsp, dry red chili 2 pc, fenugreek seeds 1/4 tsp – dry roast everything for 4-5 minutes on low heat.
  • Transfer the spices to a plate and let them cool down at room temperature.
  • Transfer the spices into the grinder and grind into a masala powder and keep aside for later use.
  • Marinating The Chicken
  • In a bowl, take chicken 500 gm, salt 1 tsp, turmeric powder 1/2 tsp, earlier ground masala powder, crushed ginger garlic 1 tbsp, whisked yogurt 1/4 cup – mix everything well and keep the chicken marinated for 30 minutes.
  • Preparing the Achari Chicken
  • Into a heating pot, add cooking oil 4 tbsp,  mustard seeds 1/2 tsp, chopped green chili 2 pc, dry curry leaves 7 pc, chopped onion 2 medium – fry the onions till golden brown for 5-6 minutes on medium-high heat.
  • Into the mixture, add chopped tomato 1 medium, salt 1/4 tsp – fry for 5 minutes on medium to high heat.
  • Add the marinated chicken into it and let it fry for 5 minutes on medium heat.
  • Add red chili powder 1 tsp and fry it for 5 more minutes on medium heat.
  • Add water 3/4 cup into the chicken and cover with a lid and let it cook for 12-15 minutes on low to medium heat.
  • In the end, add sliced garlic 2 tbsp and cook for the last 2 minutes on medium heat.
  • The Achari Chicken is ready to serve. Serve it hot with rice or chapati.
